Uneven Texture FAQs

What causes uneven texture?

Rough or bumpy skin usually comes from dead skin cells building up, small clogged pores, dryness, sun damage and slower cell turnover as we age. Breakout scarring can add to it.

Most texture is on the surface, which is good news: regular exfoliation makes a real difference.

What should my routine look like, morning and night?

Start with two or three exfoliating nights a week and build up. More is not better here.

Which ingredients help, and which make it worse?

  • Help: glycolic and lactic acid, salicylic acid for bumps around pores, retinoids, urea and hyaluronic acid
  • Make it worse: rough scrubs, picking, over exfoliating until skin stings and skipping moisturiser

How long before I see a difference?

Skin feels smoother after one or two weeks of gentle exfoliation. Bigger changes from a retinoid take eight to twelve weeks.

Can I use these alongside retinol, acids or SPF?

Yes, on separate nights. Retinoid one night, acid the next and a rest night if skin feels tight.

Exfoliated skin burns more easily, so wear SPF every morning.

If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, skip retinoids and check with your doctor.
