Which skincare ingredient should I start with?
Start with what you want your skin to do. For hydration, look at hyaluronic acid and ceramides. For brightness and dark spots, vitamin C and niacinamide. For texture and fine lines, retinol, peptides or gentle AHAs and BHAs.
Can I use vitamin C and retinol together?
Yes, they work well in the same routine. Most people use vitamin C in the morning under SPF and retinol at night, so each one gets to do its job without irritating the skin.
Can I use niacinamide with vitamin C?
Yes. Modern formulas of both are designed to be used together, and they pair well for brighter, more even looking skin. If your skin is sensitive, start with one and add the other once your skin is settled.
What is the difference between retinol and retinal?
Both are forms of vitamin A. Retinal is one step closer to the form skin actually uses, so it tends to work a little faster. You will find both in our retinol edit.
What is PDRN?
PDRN is short for polydeoxyribonucleotide, a DNA based ingredient that is usually taken from salmon, with some newer plant based versions too. It is used for skin that looks calmer, bouncier and healthier. Shop the PDRN edit.
Do I need SPF when using active ingredients?
Yes. Retinol and AHAs can make skin more sensitive to the sun, and daily SPF protects the results you are working towards. Find your daily SPF.
