Skincare for Ageing Skin FAQs

What causes skin ageing?

From your mid twenties, skin makes less collagen and renews itself more slowly. That shows as fine lines, less bounce, dullness and uneven tone. Sun exposure causes most of the visible ageing we see, with smoking, poor sleep and hormonal changes such as menopause adding to it.

What should my routine look like, morning and night?

If you only do two things, make them daily SPF and a retinoid at night.

Which ingredients help, and which make it worse?

  • Help: retinoids, vitamin C, peptides, hyaluronic acid and, most of all, daily SPF
  • Make it worse: sun without protection, over exfoliating, smoking, and using too many strong actives at once

How long before I see a difference?

Hydrating products make skin look plumper within days. Vitamin C brightens over four to eight weeks. Retinoids take eight to twelve weeks to smooth texture and around six months to soften fine lines, so stick with it.

Can I use these alongside retinol, acids or SPF?

Yes, if you split them up. Vitamin C in the morning, retinoid at night, and exfoliating acids on separate nights from your retinoid. SPF every morning protects all that work.

If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, skip retinoids and check with your doctor.

Which products would you start me on?
